Miss Zuri (pun intended as Wings of Love is based in Missouri) and Chelsea are hyacinth macaws and they are the rarest birds in the Wings of Love program. Chelsea is also known as "Larry Bird" in our shows because of his love of playing birdy basketball. To see a pair of hyacinth macaws is truly a unique experience; most people never have an opportunity to see one of these magnificent birds in person. They are very endangered and it is reported that only three groups remain in the wild. However, they are learning to live alongside cattle ranchers in their native southern Brazil and this will help them immensely thrive in the wild, unlike many other endangered rainforest species. This pair is looking at settling down and starting a family this season now that Zuri is 11 years old and has reached maturity. Even though they are terribly missed in the shows, we look forward to someday having a second generation of big "boo-berries" in our shows.
